LEICA CM3050S Microtome Cryostat – Ser.# 4780042007

Brief description: 
The cryostat is used for making thinly sliced sections of frozen tissues embedded in OCT.  It is equipped with a footswitch, locking hand-wheel, knife guard and the lowest temperature it can reach is -40C.

Access:
Users needed to sign up in the blue binder located above the cryostat.  The cryostat is available on a first-come first serve basis to VA laboratory personnel and their affiliates/collaborators.

Cost to use:
There is no cost to the user.  However, users must bring all their own supplies including, but not limited to, microscope slides, slide boxes, mounting medium, cutting blades, etc.

Other information:
Prior to use, new users must schedule a training session(s) with an experienced individual from his/her own VA-associated laboratory or by initiating contact with a frequent user.  A list of current users and their contact information can be found in the blue sign-on binder.

After use, the individual must clean and disinfect the cryostat, leaving it in the condition in which it was found.
