Nicholas Giori, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Nicholas Giori is an orthopedic surgeon who has worked at the VA Palo Alto for the past 14 years, and has been the Chief of the Orthopedic Surgery section since 2006.  He is a specialist in joint replacement surgery, having completed a fellowship in joint replacement surgery at the Mayo Clinic in 2000.  He also earned a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University in 1994.  Dr. Giori is currently Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Stanford University.  Dr. Giori’s research interests involve orthopededic biomechanics, particularly with respect to the initiation and progression of osteoarthritis, and the design and functional assessment of joint replacements.  He has published 69 peer reviewed articles and presented 80 abstracts at national or international meetings.
