Dr. Sesh Mudumbai
Dr. Sesh Mudumbai is a staff anesthesiologist at the VA Palo Alto; Medical Director for VISN 21 Clinical Informatics Systems and Perioperative Analytics; and an
Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative, and Pain Medicine, Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Mudumbai is a board certified anesthesiologist. He has completed a patient safety fellowship at the VA Palo Alto and a Masters in Health Services Research at Stanford University.
The mission of Dr. Mudumbai’s research group is to improve the ability of patients and clinicians to act on data through the evaluation of medication management and informatics tools in small groups and populations. We study the psychological, social, biologic, and system-level factors affecting medication use in order to advance the effectiveness at which clinicians work, and to inform public policy.
Dr. Mudumbai will be conducting a multi-year study evaluating the outcomes and risk factors for extended release/long acting opioids (Food & Drug Administration PMR Study 3033-1A). Prescription opioid use continues to represent a public health crisis for the VHA. The results of this study will help determine management guidelines and potentially inform policies for opioid use for the many VHA patients who take opioids on a daily basis.
